What this page does
It shows the departures London Gatwick Airport is currently reporting as delayed, read from a flight data provider and stamped with the time it was read. Tap your flight and we set out the rules that apply to it: the ones the airline has to meet right now, and the ones that decide whether compensation is due later.
Compensation depends on how late you land, not on how late you leave. A flight that leaves three hours late and makes some of it up in the air may arrive under the threshold and pay nothing. It also depends on why the flight was disrupted. Airlines do not have to pay compensation where the cause was outside their control and could not have been avoided — weather, air traffic control restrictions, a security alert, a strike by someone other than their own staff. A technical fault is normally not treated as outside their control, and nor is a shortage of their own crew. It is for the airline to prove the cause, not for you to disprove it.
So this page cannot tell you that you have a claim, and it does not try to. What it can do is tell you which questions decide it, and what to ask the airline before you leave the airport.
What it cannot tell you
- Whether your flight will be compensated. That depends on how late you land and why the flight was disrupted, and neither is known yet.
- Anything about a flight the board is not showing. If your flight is missing, the airport has not reported it as disrupted — type the number in and we will still explain the rules.
- How current the board is beyond the time printed on it. Airlines update at their own pace, and the screens in the terminal are the ones that count.
How we are paid
This page is free and, at the moment, earns nothing. We expect to work with a claims service eventually and to be paid when someone uses it. When that happens this page will name the company and say what they charge, before the link rather than after it.
We would rather set that out plainly than describe ourselves as impartial. Being paid to introduce you to someone is a real interest, and you should be able to weigh it.
