Signs it may be time to replace
- Age: boilers commonly last around 10 to 15 years (Checkatrade[1]).
- Fitted before 2005? Gas and LPG boilers fitted before 2005 (oil before 2007) are usually non-condensing, which means more heat goes out of the flue (Energy Saving Trust[3]).
- Frequent breakdowns: repair quotes that are getting close to the price of a replacement.
- Parts are hard to get for older models.
- Patchy heat: radiators that stay cold at the bottom, or hot water that runs lukewarm.
- Safety warnings from a Gas Safe registered engineer. If you ever smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999.
